11/11/11 Sets Off Wedding Craze, But Will the Date Bring Luck to Newlyweds?
Posted by erik devaneyWhen planning a wedding, there are several factors that couples typically take into account: Will the wedding be a big event or a small, family affair? Will it be at a church or some other venue? And — perhaps most importantly — who will be seated next to crazy Uncle Jim at the reception?
But for some couples, numbers play a big part in wedding plans. For such couples, choosing a date that is numerically significant, and easy to remember, can have a serious impact on the success of a marriage.
Friday, November 11, 2011, is one of those significant dates. In addition to being Veterans Day, the date can be abbreviated numerically as 11/11/11.
The Today show is reporting that couples are flocking by the thousands to Las Vegas so that they can the tie on the knot on 11/11/11. The Clark County clerk’s office, which receives Vegas’ wedding applications, had already received 3,500 pre-applications for 11/11/11 as of Tuesday. The office usually receives only 1,000 applications in an entire month.
But the 11/11/11 wedding craze is not limited to Las Vegas. Shane McMurray, CEO of The Wedding Report, recently told The Boston Herald that between 55,000 and 70,000 couples will be exchanging vows across the country on Friday. This is nearly double the amount of weddings that occur in an average week.
According to McMurray, the Boston area can expect up to 1,500 weddings on 11/11/11. As a result, local bakers are feeling the heat.
George Montilio, president and owner of Montilio’s Baking Company in Brockton, told New England Post that the bakery has definitely seen a spike in wedding cake orders for Friday.
“Because of the fall and New England this is usually one of the last busy weeks, next week is quiet, as we are heading into Thanksgiving,” said Montilio. “Usually Friday we deliver 5 wedding cakes… this week, because of the 11/11/11, it is 35 on Friday.”
So what will the future hold for the tens of thousands of couples getting married on 11/11/11? According to Numerology.com, the date promises to help relationships flourish.
“It’s a day that favors matters of the heart over the mind, a day when friendship, romance, caring, and all those other good qualities of life are of utmost importance,” wrote Numerology.com contributor, Hans Decoz.
Decoz continued, “The number 11 also has many other positive attributes, such as compassion, tact, sensitivity, intuition, emotional intensity, passion and harmony. It is non-confrontational and likes to mediate and keep the peace.”
