SMITHFIELD, Maine (AP) — A Maine game warden says an elderly duck hunter rescued after his boat capsized on North Pond in Smithfield was wearing a life jacket.

The man, whose name was not released, was in a small aluminum boat Wednesday when it hit a rock and capsized near Pomleau Island.

Warden Sgt. Terry Hughes tells the Morning Sentinel the man clung to the boat and a duck decoy bag for almost 30 minutes before help arrived.

Hughes says it’s likely the man did not see the rock.

The hunter was taken to Inland Hospital in Waterville. His condition wasn’t available.
